Diogenes Syndrome

Diogenes syndrome, also known as senile squalor syndrome, is a disorder characterized by extreme self-neglect, domestic squalor, social withdrawal, apathy, compulsive hoarding of garbage, and lack of shame. Diogenes Syndrome tends to occur among the elderly.

Upon hospitalization, many suffering from Diogenes Syndrome are diagnosed with significant medical issues. There is a 50% mortality rate following hospitalization. The 5 year mortality rate is 46%
